If you don’t mind me being over a month late, I have some Christmas musings to share. I have at least two posts in my brain relating to Christmas. Today’s being one of them.
I don’t know that I have ever taken the time to talk about Parents As Teachers. It’s a little crazy that I haven’t since that program has been a part of our lives since Adelynn was 9 months old! It is a grant funded program through the school districts that offers resources for parents of young children. It is a completely free program and if you have one near you I HIGHLY suggest you take advantage of it!! There’s no reason not to!
They send an educator – the same one – to your house once a month for an hour long visit. She brings age appropriate paperwork each time to show milestones, and often times, a bag of goodies to keep for the month. There is a lending library at their location where they have items to check out. Children’s books and toys and reading material for parents. They also have playgroups (depending on the area) 1-5 days each week. Adelynn and I have made good friends at these playgroups and look forward to seeing them at playgroup and outside of playgroup! At both of the PATs we have been involved in, they offered evening events once a month. These are great for letting Dads get involved as well!
My sister-in-law is an OT, specializing in children 0-3. Although she has a Masters degree, she is still able to learn things from other educators. So if that is your excuse as to why you don’t do it… I don’t want to hear it 🙂 If you say it is because you work, that’s still no excuse! They do evening visits.
As I mentioned before, this post is related to Christmas. We went to the Parents As Teachers annual Christmas party in December and I want to show you pictures!
Sniffing the holiday scented cotton balls. Cinnamon, Peppermint, Gingerbread, etc.
Riding the “Sleigh” with Leyton. He’s a buddy from play group. You can’t tell from the pictures, but she had fun and would been a passenger the whole evening!
Playing in the “snow”.
It was pretty fun!
She was very concerned and had to make sure she cleaned up any of the “snow” that fell out
Then she had a cookie while we stood in line to see Santa.
Santa was not a favorite… not even Mrs. Clause!
But she was safe once again
We had a great time!
